Patsy Cline Story starring Sandy Kelly
Patsy Cline - The Concert features the star of the original West End Production Sandy Kelly and her musicians in a non stop evening of hits. The evening will include all of Patsy Cline's biggest hits including Crazy, I Fall To Pieces, Blue Moon of Kentucky, Your Cheatin' Heart, After Midnight, Sweet Dreams, San Antone Rose and many many more. One of her biggest successes in her glittering career was the Lead role in “A Musical Tribute To Patsy Cline” which toured Britain for a record 37 weeks before opening in London’s West End. Sandy made over 500 appearances in this show before moving onto writing and directing her own Patsy Tribute Show ‘Patsy Cline: The Concert’ which has been a phenomenal success. Sandy released a Greatest Hits CD, “The Best of Sandy Kelly”, in 2009. It contains some of Sandy’s finest work from her enduring and magical musical journey. The 22 track album has many of Sandy’s hit songs through the years and features some wonderful duets with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline and Glen Campbell. “It was my pleasure to sing with my favourite female artist, Sandy Kelly. In America she has been Ireland’s greatest ambassador. She won the hearts of everyone who saw her. I am honoured to be included as one of the guest artists on her album”. Ceo O'Mhuscrai
A group of well known musicians based in the Múscrai gaeltacht area of Co. Cork have embarked on a novel new project to beat the recession. The formation of “Music from Muskerry-Ceol ó Mhúscraí”, the country’s first ever bi-lingual musician’s collective, aims to show how people can work together to overcome shared difficulties.
The music industry throughout the world is in a state of unprecedented flux but the musicians of Ireland’s newest musical collective have decided to do something positive about it. They intend to pool their creative resources and distribute their C.D.’s throughout the country through a wide network of bookshops.
As Peadar O’ Riada, a spokesperson for the group, explained “This is a very new and exciting idea. It has great potential and besides the distribution we have a website www.ceolomhuscrai.net connecting all our various websites, which feature news of concerts, recordings, on-line sales, collaborations and other work. The presence of this music in the bookshops also offers a viable alternative for those interested in buying music who perhaps do not shop on-line.”
The formation of “Music from Muskerry-Ceol ó Mhúscraí”, was launched by a concert in Macroom’s Briery Gap Centre on Friday, March 20th 2010.
Artists from the collective include Sean O’ Sé,(m.c. on the night) , Máire ní Cheocháin O; Crualaí, Peadar O’ Riada, Fiona Kelleher, Noel Shine and Mary Greene, Ger Wolfe, Jim Murray, Máire Ní Chéilleachair, The Abbey Céilí band, Connie O’ Connell, Fiontán O’ Meachair, Eibhlís Ni Súilleabháin, Cóir na mBan, Conal O’ Gráda, Hammy Hamilton and Cóir Cúil Aodha.
From choral to folk through traditional, country, sean-nós singing, experimental, blues and folk-rock ‘Ceol ó Mhúscraí -Music from Muskerry’ has something to offer everyone’s musical palate. It represents the kind of initiative needed to realise and celebrate our own potential as a nation. Music is one of our greatest assets here in Ireland and our musicians, as eyes and ears of society, deserve to be listened to and supported.
